Luis Garibaldi
Director of Education at the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture.
Luis Garibaldi has been a qualified teacher since 1987 and a Spanish Language teacher since 2003. He has been teaching Teachers’ Training in the Area of language didactics since 1998. He has published eight text books on language for use in schools which were selected by technical teachers’ panels after a public call for bids. He has carried out research in the area of language didactics, the latest being on teaching reading and writing in Uruguayan state schools. He has written numerous articles and given several talks, courses and conferences related to the topic of general education and the teaching of the written language in particular.
He was a member of the Technical Teachers’ Assemblies (the consulting organ of the Council of Primary Education, elected by the body of teachers) since its creation in 1991 until 2001 and member of its Standing Committee in 1995 and 1996. He was a member of the directorate organs of the Montevidean Association of Teachers (ADEMU) and of the Uruguayan Federation of Teachers’ Training (FUM-TEP). He has been the Director of Education at the Uruguayan Ministry of Education from 2005 to the present and has been part of the Policy Commission of the CEIBAL Plan since its creation.
