Juan Madrigal

Head of the Digital Resources, Experimentation and Innovation area of the Institute of Educational Technologies at the Ministry of Education.

Juan Madrigal Muga, who has a Mathematics degree from the Madrid Complutense University, is a Secondary School Mathematics teacher who began to work in educational IT in 1985 as Technical Teaching Advisor at the PNTIC ( currently ITE).

His main work in educational IT has been, on the one hand, the design of training models both for in-class and distance training, trainer training (the Atenea project), teacher and adult training (the Mentor project), and on the other, the design and development of digital resources production models and their integration into the classroom, like the Descartes project of interactive educational digital contents for Mathematics, the EDA project for help to experiment with ITC in the classroom, the Good Practice Net 2.0 which promotes innovation in education using ITC and the ED@D project of digital distance education.

Juan Madrigal talked about the two lives which the student leads: one at home and the other in the classroom, in both of which the new technologies are the protagonists, although used in different ways. He encouraged the whole educational community to incorporate social networking as a pedagogical tool, offering a new hither-to unknown use. He underlined that Spain is the second country in the world in the use of social networking. He also pointed out that the teachers prefer digital educational resources which they can adapt and modify to teaching needs at any given moment.
